Who does Neurofeedback work for?
There are many scientific studies and controlled studies on using Neurofeedback as a treatment method for various mental disorders. Neurofeedback has been highly successful in the treatment of epilepsy, sleep disorders as well as ADHD and ADD. It has been successfully applied in clinical settings for more than 30 years, particularly in the treatment of ADHD and ADD. Neurofeedback is an evidence-based treatment with proven efficacy as demonstrated in a recent meta-analysis and in this recent review.
A course of Neurofeedback sessions can have the same effect as ongoing intake of psychostimulant medications like Ritalin, for example. The benefit of Neurofeedback, however, is that ongoing treatment is rarely needed after the course length and medications can be avoided altogether.
Are the effects of Neurofeedback long-term?
Studies of long-term effects of Neurofeedback show that the symptoms improve after the first treatment with Neurofeedback and remain stable after the treatment course. Research shows that attention, impulsiveness and hyperactivity further improved after 6 months and had remained stable after 2 years. More information on Neurofeedback research and results can be found here.
What is the success rate of Neurofeedback?
Neurofeedback successfully treats symptoms of ADHD in approximately 75-80% of clients.
Do I get electric shocks through the electrodes that are fixed to my head?
No, the electrodes can only be used to measure brain activity.
Do I need a referral from my GP?
You do not need a referral for treatment. Based on your intake interview a trained therapist will decide whether Neurofeedback is the right treatment for you. Referral from a GP may be necessary to receive reimbursement from your insurer. Refer to your clinic if you have any questions regarding reimbursement.
Do I need a diagnosis to qualify for Neurofeedback treatment?
A diagnosis of ADHD is not necessary to undergo treatment with Neurofeedback. A trained therapist will assess the client's complaints and brain activity (via a QEEG test) to determine whether or not Neurofeedback is the right treatment for you.
Who can undergo Neurofeedback?
Neurofeedback is a suitable treatment for children from the age of 6 years as well as adults.
What is Tele-Neurofeedback?
*tele-neurofeedback is not available at all neuroCare clinics. Please refer to your clinic for more information.
Tele-neurofeedback allows you to do neurofeedback training from the comfort of your own home. After preliminary visits and consultation with your therapist, you will be trained to connect the Neurofeedback apparatus with the help of a friend, parent or guardian. Training sessions can take place on a home computer, provided there is adequate internet connection, and the therapist can observe and correct the client remotely from the clinic via telephone. Tele-neurofeedback is ideal for clients who live a considerable distance from the clinic. If you are interested in this form of therapy, please let us know. We will then look into your situation and see whether this is possible for you.
Why is a brain assessment (QEEG) necessary?
Brainwaves have different patterns, even within a population of people with ADHD or ADD, for example. It is important that Neurofeedback sessions are tailored to the specific client's brain pattern. Through a QEEG assessment it is possible to determine which brain waves need to be trained.
Here you can read why it is important to have the QEEG before the start of Neurofeedback therapy.
How many sessions are needed?
On average 30 to 40 sessions of Neurofeedback are needed. For the best effect we recommend scheduling at least two to three sessions per week. Usually there is a noticeable effect within 10-20 sessions.
How much does Neurofeedback cost?
We charge for the intake interview, QEEG assessment, treatment clarification as well as the Neurofeedback sessions.
Please refer to your clinic for pricing information.
Is Neurofeedback reiumbursed by health insurance providers?
Health insurance providers are of course different in each country. If reimbursement is possible, this will be specified on your clinic's page.
